Proposal sketch
The Harry S. Truman historic district in Independence, Missouri chose Cape Craft Signs to design and fabricate five new signs to designate the town's historic boundaries. The signs will hang from light poles at the entrances to the district. The Message is carved on one side only. The backs, which are visible as you leave the district, are flat black and say "Thanks for Visiting".

Job is in progress now. The carving and gilding is finished (see pics below). We are currently finessing the 'cast iron' silhouettes of Truman out of 1/2" aluminum plate which will be rounded and painted to appear as iron. The custom wrought iron brackets wrap the ovals completely with a 1.5" steel band and are backed with stainless steel. Brackets are being fabricated at Harwich Machine in Harwich, MA.

Click for EnlargementA unique feature of this job is it came from an internet contact and we have never met the clients. Still we were able to submit presentations based on actual site photos, showing the proposed signs in real scale. Below is a visual showing one of the actual sign locations. Click on the pic for a closeup if you'd like. The only difference is when installed, the sign will flag out over the street, not over the sidewalk. When we get final pics of the installed signs we'll be sure to add them here.

Here are the signs as they stand as of Feb. 12, 2001. Click on these images for closeups. When we get at least one fully assembled with it's bracket and silhouette, we'll add it promptly.

Feb 26, 2001. All finished now, take a look. These will be packaged and gone tomorrow. The next pic we post will be from the Missouri site after the final installation. Thanks for looking!
