36 Tee signs all exactly the same shape were cut with a router and
template collar (left). Note the white 1/2"PVC template clamped to the 1.5"HDU blank.
Then the cove routed edges were added (right), wooden
mounting cleats were epoxeed to the back for attaching the custom bracket hardware, and the blanks were taken to
Recon Auto Body (below) in Orleans, MA for an automotive finish.
When cured, the tee sign panels were shipped to Meriden
Connecticut for computer v-carving on a CNC router. With the small details and the tight timeframe of this job, it would have been impractical to perform all this work with only chisels. So
hand carving was reserved for the larger directional and identity signs.
Installation of the 36 tee signs with their custom rope-wrapped cedar
posts required the aid of a power auger. Even with this mighty tool, the installation in the far-flung recesses of this massive course was a four day event.
